Three beliefs that colour the way I work with my clients:

I believe…

In holistic healthcare and the importance of understanding the whole person, not just what is bothering them. Our mind, body, and social environment all contribute to our personal wellness.

I believe…

That we are all trying our best and that our best can be improved with the right support.

I believe…

That what we say to ourselves matters and the importance of speaking to ourselves as we would to someone we love.

What’s it like to be in a room with me?
My clients tell me that I am warm, calm, and genuine. The way that I work is to try and help my clients gain a greater understanding of themselves and why they do the things they do. Ultimately, I try to help my clients feel less burned out and more fulfilled in their life and their relationships. I understand that therapy is hard because I do try and practice what I preach, and I certainly find it easier said than done sometimes! It’s not about needing to do everything right all the time, it’s about walking through this together.

What’s my non-negotiable when it comes to taking care of my own mental health?
Our body and mind are so closely connected. Although it took me a while to discover this, now that I have, looking after my physical health is a non-negotiable to taking care of my mental health. I try to exercise regularly, get some sunshine, eat enough nutritious food, and prioritise sleep, about 85% of the time. To me, it’s not about doing it perfectly (hint: I LOVE chocolate and do enjoy eating it most days), but rather having enough good habits to help me stay grounded in challenging times

My life motto:
“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” — George Eliot

My background and experience

I have been practicing psychology for seven years. During this time, I have worked in numerous settings, including mental health hospitals. These experiences provided me with the opportunity to work with many different people and highlighted the importance of having a safe space to share and heal from our difficult experiences. I feel truly humbled that so many people have allowed me to hear their stories and trusted me to support them when they are feeling their most vulnerable.

My clinical practice also falls on biology and research backgrounds. This has helped me understand that good mental health is not just what is going on in your mind but also what goes on in your body. For example, when we are anxious, we can feel it in our body, such as feeling butterflies in our stomach. My time in research has also taught me the importance of evidence-based, yet individualised, practice. I believe that we are all a little different and value working together with my clients to find out what will work best for them.

One of my passions is working in health psychology and I have experience working with people with chronic sleep issues and/or chronic pain. Before becoming a psychologist, I worked as a sleep scientist. I have now worked in the sleep field for over ten years in varying roles.
