When we feel stressed, anxious, depressed or just generally overwhelmed we tend to fuse with our thoughts. We spend a large portion of our time up in our heads going over and over things from the past and worrying about the future. We lose contact with the present moment.

This exercise will walk you through the skill of defusing from your thoughts by stepping back from them and observing them, rather than getting lost in them.

It’s important to note that this exercise is not designed to get rid of your thoughts or to make you think positive, calming thoughts. The aim of the exercise is to help you to relate to your thoughts differently, whatever your thoughts might be.
