What is it like to be in a room with me as a supervisor?
My main priority is to provide support and encouragement, while also providing more structured feedback when necessary. I like to create an open and understanding environment where people can feel safe to express negative emotions about clients, or difficulties that they have faced in providing treatment. I will often speak about my own difficulties or ‘mistakes’ in therapy, as a way of modelling humility but also to show that often really powerful work can come out of recovering from difficult encounters. I am quite flexible in terms of how the supervision session flows in order to be responsive to your needs as a supervisee.
Three books that have influenced my work as a psychologist:
The Happiness Trap
by Russ Harris
Been There. Done That. Try This! An Aspie’s Guide to Life on Earth
by Tony Attwood et al
Any Ordinary Day
by Leigh Sales
